Main Library Has Movie for Deaf & It Was A Big Hit

Per Kathy Lussier, CR&M's Assistant Director, Eric Soriano did a great job putting together a public viewing of the movie,  “The Hammer” at the Main Library.  This is a new movie about a deaf wrestler; learn more at this website:  http://www.thehammerpremiere.com/

Eric reported there were 85 people in the audience--not counting a volunteer and an interpreter. Mitesh Sangani thought this was one of the best attended JPL movie programs ever. Additional handouts had to be made to accommodate the demand.  Eric will follow through with viewers' suggestions on future programs and services we could offer to the community.

While a majority of the attendees were deaf, there were also some ASL students and teachers there.  Eric was delighted to meet the program chair of UNF’s Deaf Education department as well as a retired deaf librarian. Many were first time visitors to the Main Library.  They appreciated the movie and look forward to visiting again. All of them expressed the desire to attend future library deaf or ASL related activities.  Eric Soriano is scheduling a post-event meeting with the Jacksonville Deaf Club and some of the local colleges to discuss any other future collaborations.

Good feedback was received on the fliers and posters and the interpreter.  Eric expressed his appreciation to CR&M for helping make this a successful event.
