Friends of JB Go Dr Suess

The Friends of the Beaches Library celebrated Dr Suess Day at JB, June 11, and 250 kids of all ages partied. They played games, participated in crafts, face painting and listened to a story. Pictured is Wendy Warner, member of JB's Friends Board, dressed as The Cat in the Hat. Teen Librarian Julie Rekow read The Foot Book to the delight of all. Additional pictures can be viewed on The Friends of the Beaches Library Facebook page and at Jacksonvile.com. (Thanks to Terry Welch for the news and pic.)

New Officers for Beaches Branch Friends

The Beaches Branch Friends gathered to discuss business and elect new officers in JB's Community Room, January 12, 2016. Their new officers are: President: Josh Messinger; Vice President: Barbara Sperbeck; Secretary: Wendy Warner; and Treasurer: Richard Keene.

Pictured above, left to right: Andrea Patton, Pat Taylor, Premysl Pech, Wendy Warner, Josh Messinger (Pam Ubl is standing in front of Josh) Barbara Sperbeck, Barbara Davis. Behind Barbara is Ingrid McCauley and on the far right is Marianna Kane.

Another important topic discussed was the landscaping project for JB, and the Beaches Friends are coordinating with JPL and working closely with Deputy Director Jennifer Giltrop to get the required City permits and approvals. The improved landscaping will complement the renovations in process at the Beaches Branch.

It was noted in the meeting that *Mrs. Bonnie Booth, a long-time member of the Beaches Friends and also a former chairman of the Board of Library Trustees, passed away over the holidays. Members discussed an appropriate tribute to Mrs. Booth.

A Thank You From Denise Thomas

To the JPL Family: I wish to thank each and every one of you for your caring responses during my time of need. For those who were not aware, time was needed for surgery and recovery from breast cancer. I want you to know that all donated leave, words of encouragement, random acts of kindness and those beautiful smiles are appreciated.

I am a breast cancer survivor as a result of God’s Grace and an early detection of the cancer. May I suggest that each of you, if you have not already done so, take time to schedule health screenings of any kind knowing that these can be lifesaving methods for you.

To God be the glory for the things he has done. I am now free of cancer and want to say again that I appreciate what you did for me. Not knowing who my time donors were, I am not able to give individual hugs; collectively to the JPL Family I say THANK YOU a million times over.

Denise Thomas, JPL’s Center for Adult Learning at Main.

MARILYN JORDAN SENDS THANKS TO STAFF WHO DONATED TIME FOR HER RECENTLY

SANTA AND KIDS AT MAIN

Main's Children’s departmemt had a jolly great time with Old Saint Nick this year. We handed out jingle bells, read a sleigh ride picture book and, of course, sang the Jingle Bells song. Next, resident elf, Carisia Rooney, took over and kept the line smiling as they waited to verify that indeed, Santa’s whiskers were real and so was his tummy! Afterward, Jonathan Sandbach held a bell-decorating class (complete with glitter) so the kids could take some of the holiday fun home with them.
