SOM's 24,605 Beads Mean Kids READ!

SOM held its end of summer program, August 10, 2011, and 85 kids and parents had a wonderful time. The kids ate ice cream, made boomerangs, and played hopscotch--American and French versions--as well as Branch Manager Ed Murray (right). In keeping with the "One World, Many Stories" SLP theme, customers were asked to choose their favorite place to visit and Paris was the winner.

Remember the "globe" jar pictured on this blog, July 19, and kids were to drop a bead in the jar each time they read a book? Well, the "globe" now contains 24,605 beads! During the program the kids guessed how many beads were in the globe; the two closest numbers chosen were 9,000 and 10,000 beads.

SOM employees know how to get into a theme and Tracy O'Sullivan, left in a glamorous mask, Anne Clement, center, and Angela Richman and her daughter, Amy, donned sombreros for the event.

Three cheers for South Mandarin Branch staff for all those programs that attracted so many kids to the library to READ, READ, READ.
