West Regional Branch Celebrates Dia de Los Muertos

Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican three-day festival that begins the last days of October. It is a time to honor and celebrate loved ones who have passed away.

One of the customs is to decorate sugar skulls. Since West Regional Branch did not have sugar skulls, kids were offered plastic skulls to decorate in an Early Release craft program.  For their snacking pleasure, candy replaced the traditional sugar skulls.

Eve Harm said there were about 30 participants who demonstrated a lot of creativity. Mexican music played during the program and a small display of Day of the Dead books made it easy to find out more about this Mexican tradition.
