Smart Boards For Smart Teens
This is a photo of Main Teen Library
Associate Tracy O’Sullivan using our new smart board during her book club.
YEAR OF THE RIVER DISPLAY AT SE
Below is a pic of a display at Southeast Branch. Director Gubbin asks JPL to promote THE YEAR OF THE RIVER system wide. JPL has partnered with the Cultural Fusion and she wants JPL to partner with other organizations and promote this project vigorously by doing displays, story times, programs, etc.
Thanks to Debra Wainwright for sending this in. It is a beautiful display that you put together, Debra, and certain to get a lot of attention.
What's on your agenda for THE YEAR OF THE RIVER?
SE Shows Customers They Care
Deborah Wainwright shares these pictures of Southeast Branch's Valentine Day decorations in the circulation area, and the employees gave out
signed Valentine cards and candy to the customers who
visited the branch. ..... Would you think whoever kissed the Valentine frog saw him turn into a prince?
Two Celebrate Ten Years At KR
Stacey Van Hoy and David Foster
received their 10 year pins at the Mandarin Branch Library from SE Region Manager Michael Sullivan (right of Stacy), joined by Julie McNei (left of Stacy)l, Assistant Director for Public Services, and the KR employees on February 27. Sara Peretzman organized the
party. Stacy is in the bright colored jacket in front and David is second from right in background. (Thanks to KR Manage Lynne Baldwin for sharing the news.)

The cake says it all for all of us, Stacy and David.
WBK Teen Wins Prizes
“Name
the Trailblazer in America” Black History Month
contest winner is 14 year old Simone Footman. Simone correctly named 13 of the 15 faces on the poster. She won a $10 gift card from Winn Dixie and a JPL bag stuffed with goodies. Library Assistant Antoinette Walker originally designed the display to get customers thinking about historical trailblazers & Library Associate Kimberly Cherry decided to make it a contest and it was quite a success. (Please see previous article and picture on this blog about WBK's Black History Month celebration.)

2nd JPL Retirees' Reunion At SE, 2/20/15
The second JPL retirees' reunion was held at Southeast Branch Library, February 20, 2015. Introductory remarks were made by Carole Schwartz Moore, who--along with Elsie Oishi and Carol Smith--organized the event attended by 39 former JPL employees. Recaps of memories were interrupted with refreshments during the two hour confab. Attendees also had the opportunity to view albums with pictures from former reunions and articles by retirees that have appeared in the online staff news blog. Of special interest was the book by Pat Doyle, which she created and brought to the reunion. Assembled in her book were images that captured the history of JPL.
Flo Cate Clark, who worked 1960-1970 as Executive Secretary for then Library Director Harry Brinton at the old Main Library, was recognized as the attendee who worked for the system the farthest back in time. Few former employees could say they go back that far but Carol Smith, Jean Stewart Madray, Elsie Oishi, and Margaret Smith remember Flo, and if you are one of them, let us know!
Carole Moore emphasized that in the future they are relying only on emails to notify former JPL staffs about upcoming reunions.*
CW Region Manager Marshelle Berry (MBerry@coj.net) spoke about the newly reorganized JPL Staff Association. Retirees, as well as current staffs, can join and participate.
Retirees were invited to submit articles to Sara Gunter (sgunter@coj.net) that could include current activities--work, volunteering, hobbies, travels, and even a trying accident or illness that was overcome and could serve as an encouragement to others in tough times.**
The Reunion Committee (Carole Moore, Carol Smith, and Elsie Oishi) thanks everyone for making this reunion as much fun as the first one held last February at SE (50 attended then). Thanks also to Arden Brugger and Peggy Glassnap for supplementing the refreshments with their contributions of food for the reunion.
Elsie Oishi noted that there have been simi-annual reunions between 2003-2007, before the annual reunion was resurrected last year.
Attendees are listed below (only Jerry Reynolds is not in this group picture):
Seated (L to R): Gloria Zittrauer, Barbara Kiersh, Elsie Oishi, Carol Strohecker, Florence (Cate) Clark
2nd row
(beginning behind Kiersh): Mary Mlady,

Sallie Pickard, Valerie Evans, Carol Smith, Peggy Glassnap, Sandra
Stonestreet
3rd row: Almeritta Willcox,
Naomi Bryant, Nora Freedman, Katherine Daye, Margaret Smith, Dianne Byrd, Alma
Brown, Carol (Brown) Tipton, Sally Litton, Belinda Campbell, Pat Doyle, Anita
Haller
4th row: Barbara Davis, Arden
