Too often we do not acknowledge the pistons that keep our
engines going. I must acknowledge it does take a village/a community/a
system to … Many thanks to The Friends of Brentwood Library and their
community partners who donated money to purchase the guitars; thanks to JPLFacilities
and Gary for creating the foot rests; thanks to Carolyn Williams, Julie McNeil
and Kathy Lussier for attending and participating in this community event;
thanks to Michael Soto and Mitesh Sangani for providing chairs for our
audience; thanks to Ron Block for providing the bags; thanks to Cranston Burney
for the photographs; and thanks to the wonderful staff at Brentwood who took
turns staffing the workshop.

Sisters Jiwon and Jihoo Byun and their little brother
Jian are active members of the 2014 Summer Reading Program at the Mandarin
Branch Library. On July 11, the siblings with a little help from their
mother Jeong Lee, added their books to the Fizz Boom Read beaker that keeps
track of the number of books read this summer. Over 2000 books have been
added to the beaker since the Summer Reading started on June 1.

June 15, Willowbranch Library’s story hour
focused on water-- quite timely considering all the rain
that we’ve been having lately. We had a great turnout: 50 for the
first session, followed by 39 during the second reading. Miss Isabelle
(Pierre) lead the children in singing and dancing, and then read the books Rain
and The Falling Raindrop.

All three received a beautiful rendering of the new Main Library like the one presented to Ed by his Supervisor Erica Brown. Valerie's, Ed's, and Jim's copies were signed by Director Gubbin, Deputy Directors Carolyn Williams and Mark Merritt--and every other employee who could get a chance to sign their individual copies. (Above Library Assistant Diane Alexander takes her turn to sign.)
Sixty-five children were involed in a delightful program at Graham Branch, July 1. The balloon twisting
program, “To Catch a Mouse”, was interactive, educational, and what's more, the kids had a great time! They marched out to show
off their balloon mice, a “balloon pulley”, balloon “lever”, a mouse trap, etc. Peggy Crawford, Sharon Whitt and Graham’s summer worker Zahira attended
the event, took pictures and practiced crowd control. Even Stephanie (Harley)
Padmore (center, by door in last pic) came in with her three nephews for the show.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been so supportive of me as I experienced (and continue to experience) the loss of my parents. The pats, the hugs, the cards and the desk coverages, and just all the ways you’ve expressed your condolences. It has meant a great deal to me and I appreciate all of you.
Sincerely,
Martha Smith

I would like to thank everyone who donated leave to me during my absence. I wish I could thank each of you personally, but unfortunately I am unable to know the names of all who donated time. So, I just would like to say thank you so much; it really means a lot to me.
With much love and appreciation,
To the JPL Family: I wish to thank each and every one of you for your caring responses during my time of need. For those who were not aware, time was needed for surgery and recovery from breast cancer. I want you to know that all donated leave, words of encouragement, random acts of kindness and those beautiful smiles are appreciated.
I am a breast cancer survivor as a result of God’s Grace and an early detection of the cancer. May I suggest that each of you, if you have not already done so, take time to schedule health screenings of any kind knowing that these can be lifesaving methods for you.
To God be the glory for the things he has done. I am now free of cancer and want to say again that I appreciate what you did for me. Not knowing who my time donors were, I am not able to give individual hugs; collectively to the JPL Family I say THANK YOU a million times over.
Denise Thomas, JPL’s Center for Adult Learning at Main.
Thank you to everyone who donated leave to me while I was on FMLA. It means so much to me to know you donated your leave to me to help make my recovery a little less stressed. I wanted to send a personal thank you to all of you but TAS only has the names of the employees whose leave they used for me. Please know that I appreciate the leave donation and all the good thoughts and vibes sent my way.
Thank you.
